requently Asked Questions

Your questions help us understand ways we can serve you better. Here are some answers to common questions that our patients have asked.

How can I schedule an appointment?
Scheduling an appointment is easy. Just pick up the phone and give us a call. The most popular appointment times are in the early morning and late afternoon, and these are the busiest times in every office. We will make every effort to accommodate you, but there is no guarantee that we can always schedule appointments during these popular times. To reserve an early morning or late afternoon appointment, we recommend that you schedule your next visit while in the office. We try our best to stay on schedule. However, unscheduled emergencies can sometimes delay regular appointments.

What should I expect at my first appointment?
As a new patient, you will get a complete dental examination, including necessary X-rays, tooth charting, periodontal charting, medical and dental history, and a personal consultation. Dr. Toney will design a treatment plan specifically for you based on the results of your exam. New patient appointments typically last about an hour and a half.

What if I have an emergency?
If you are in pain or have an emergency situation, please let us know, and every attempt will be made to see you on that day. We will get you in as soon as we can for a quick exam, along with any necessary X-rays. You may call (972) 727-4468—our phones are even answered during off hours—and we will gladly schedule your appointment as promptly as possible.

What should I do if I need to cancel and appointment?
We work very hard to schedule appointments to accommodate the needs of our patients’ busy lives. In return, we ask patients to make every effort to keep scheduled appointments. Broken and missed appointments create scheduling problems for other patients and our staff. If you do need to cancel or reschedule, we request a minimum of 48 hours notice so that we can accommodate another patient. A fee may be applied to your account if you do not give adequate notice of a cancellation or reschedule. If you forget your scheduled appointment, call the office as soon as possible. Hygiene appointments are scheduled 6 months in advance, so an early or late appointment may not be available for your reschedule.

Do I have to file my own dental insurance claims?
As a courtesy to you, we will submit insurance claims on your behalf. However, please be aware that you are ultimately responsible for any fees, for bringing in all needed information, and for notifying our staff when that information has changed.

Do you treat children?
Yes! We offer general dentistry for the whole family. In fact, many of our patients have grown up as patients of Dr. Toney's and now bring their own children in for dental care.
